PhD studies at Palacky University normally take four years during which the student accomplishes several particular requirements. The composition of these requirements is given by the student’s individual plan which is subject to discussion between the student and his or her supervisor. Each individual plan has to comply with general programme framework and has to be approved by the PhD programme advisory board. Besides these individual requirements, passing final PhD state exam and defending PhD thesis are necessary conditions to graduate. PhD programmes at our Faculty make use of a credit system which means that students are awarded a number of credits for each accomplished requirement (e.g. passed exam, scientific publication, teaching duties, …).

Moreover, it is required for the student to be awarded at least N*40 credits to be allowed to start the (N+1)th year (e.g. to start the second year, the student has to collect at least 40 credits during the first year of the PhD studies; to start the third year, the student has to collect at least 80 credits during the first two years, etc.).
