Annotation:

The course will emphasize biological and chemical principles of modern drug research directed to cancer, viral and bacterial infections. In particular, the molecular aspects of drug action will be discussed. Special emphasis will also be placed on the methods used by medicinal chemists to design new drugs.

Content:

  • Conventional anticancer treatment, epigenetic chemotherapeuticals, monoclonal antibodies, immunotherapy, tumor growing inhibition, tumor spreading inhibition, basic in gene therapy, resistance.
  • Virus cell cycle, inhibitors of viral life cycle phases, antiherpetic and anti-influenza drugs, antiretroviral compounds, nonspecific antivirotics.
  • Antibiotics and mechanism of their action, bacterial cell wall inhibitors, inhibitors of protein production, nucleic acid synthesis inhibitors, inhibitor of biotransformation processes.
