Abstrakt anglicky: A great number of α-substituted ketones are suitable as starting material for the synthesis of various classes of N- or O- containing heterocyclic compounds. α-Halo-, α-azido, or α-diazo-ketones are usually used for this purpose, but very often these compounds are previously transformed into α-hydroxy and α-amino derivatives. The latter compounds and recent developments in the field are subject of this review, while the other derivatives are mentioned as synthetic alternatives.
